Participant Rights

Your rights are protected at every stage of your journey with us, from your first referral through to ongoing support. You don't need to ask for these rights. They're yours.

You have the right to be heard and involved

Your goals, preferences and choices guide the support you receive. You are involved in decisions about your support at every step, and you can change your mind as your needs change.

You have the right to information you can understand

We explain things in plain language, without unnecessary jargon. If you need information in another format, such as Easy Read, large print, audio, or with an Auslan interpreter, let us know and we will arrange it.

You have the right to choice and control

You choose the supports that are right for you, how you'd like us to contact you, and who you'd like involved in your journey, including a support person or advocate of your choosing.

You have the right to privacy

We only collect the information we need, and we explain why we need it before we collect it. Your information is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.

Read our Privacy Policy

You have the right to safety and respect

You have the right to be free from harm, abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination, and to be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

You have the right to raise concerns

If something isn't right, you can tell us. Raising a concern will never affect the support you receive.

You have the right to independent advocacy

You can ask someone independent from us to support you to express your views and make decisions, at any stage of your journey.

Advocacy and Support

An independent advocate is someone who supports you to express your views, understand your options, and make decisions. They are independent of us and act only in your interest.

You can involve an advocate at any point, during your referral, your intake, while receiving support, or when raising a concern. You don't need a reason to ask for advocacy support, and it won't affect the support you receive from us.

How to find an advocate

  • Disability Gateway's advocacy service can help you find independent advocacy support in your area (disabilitygateway.gov.au).
  • The National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP), funded by the Australian Government, funds independent advocacy organisations across every state and territory.

Prefer to speak with someone? Please reach out to our team and we can help you find an advocate.
